ACLA in conjunction with Influence Consulting have developed a series of workshops designed specifically for in-house lawyers. These workshops will help you develop a communication style that involves the right mix of business knowledge and commercial pragmatism, to deliver advice that is sound, commercially and legally accurate, and enables rather than impedes the actions of internal stakeholders and customers.

Workshop 2: Winning Hearts, Minds and Enduring Support – How to Get that All-important “Seat at the Table”
This hands-on workshop will introduce you to skills and approaches designed to help the in-house lawyer get a seat at the decision-making table and attention from stakeholders when making their points. Using typical case studies and practical exercises, participants will:
• Understand the influencing tools available to the in-house lawyer
• Learn a framework for building a compelling case
• Develop skills to influence others when rational thinking and logic fail
• Learn how to influence people of different communication styles.

• Learn techniques to articulate your message in a way that resonates with your stakeholder
• Learn how to convey bad news to stakeholders whilst keeping the relationship intact
• Develop ways to build relationships and establish chemistry
• Learn how to discuss the legal function in a way that grows and deepens relationships with key stakeholders.

David Lennane has over 20 years experience as a marketer in professional services firms in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and USA. He has coached and trained many partners and senior managers in legal, accounting and management consulting firms, with a particular focus on sales, marketing and negotiation/influencing skills.
