In the last two years, there has been a significant move away from law firms using time-based billing and hourly rates, to a more value based engagement, resulting in more certainty of fees for both client and law firm, and often a more mutually productive relationship. Some of this has been driven by in-house lawyers, and it is important that the in-house profession continues to investigate and pursue positive change in this area.

About the presenters
Ron Baker - CPA, Economist, Author, Speaker, Founder, Value Based Pricing Guru, Knowledge Worker Advocate.
Ronald J. Baker started his career in 1984 with KPMG Peat Marwick’s Private Business Advisory Services in San Francisco. Today, he is the founder of VeraSage Institute, a think tank dedicated to teaching Value Pricing to professionals around the world. He is the author of six best-selling books, including: The Firm of the Future: A Guide for Accountants, Lawyers, and Other Professional Services; Pricing on Purpose: Creating and Capturing Value; Measure What Matters to Customers: Using Key Predictive Indicators; and Mind Over Matter: Why Intellectual Capital is the Chief Source of Wealth. He released his latest book in 2011, Implementing Value Based Pricing; A Radical Business Model For Professional Firms.
Ron has worked and continues to work with many law firms and their clients all over the world in assisting them to making the transition away from time based costing.
John Chisholm - John was previously Managing Partner at Maddocks, and Chief Executive of Middletons. John established his own consultancy in 2005 to share his expertise and experience with professional service firms in Australia, New Zealand and worldwide who look to maximise their business performance. He now speaks, trains, facilitates, coaches and consults. For the last 6 years John has led the charge for lawyers to move away from time-based billing, regularly presents and is the author of many articles on the topic. He works with many law firms (and their clients) around Australia assisting them with both a mindset change, and the practical implementation and application of moving towards value pricing. John is also a Senior Fellow of the VeraSage Institute.
